After installing rainyday2 it doesn't show up in the saver prefpane.
it will be organized with the other apple screensavers if the installation went alright.
I ran the installer without error. I don't seen rainyday2 under "Other" in the screen saver prefs and I did not see entries in /Library/Screen Savers or /Users/me/Library Screen Savers
Leopard fully patched.
The screensaver should install in /System/Library/Screen Savers and organized with the apple screen savers. I did this because I didn't want to hit any snags with users without ~/Library/Screen Savers folders.
First off let me say this is one of my favorite screen savers for Mac. Awesome work.
One problem that I have noticed is this:
I use the security option to require a password when this machine comes out of screensaver or sleep.
When I have this option selected the background is black, and does not take the screen shot of the desktop.
Has anyone else had this problem?
yeah i'm getting reports of that elderon, but I think it's a "Security Feature" apple included to make it so that people can't read whats on your screen when they aren't able to login.
I have some other screen savers that take screen shots and they seem to work ok. I don't know...
Just thought I would let you know.
Good work... I must say!
super saver! ;-) but only does 50% of my 23" screen, the other half is black. 1920x1200 too large for it?
Hello Aaron... I recorded a video of this screensaver because I think it's very cool :)
http://vimeo.com/953825
Feel free to use it if you want. Cheers.
Thanks David!
I was thinking about doing that myself, thank you so much for grabbing a video of it, much appreciated.
Jack,
Large resolutions do that for a reason I haven't been able to hunt down, i'll see what I can do using my roommate's cinema display.
Installation fails constantly with message:
"Install Failed: The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a difference copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement."
10.5.2 fully patched
yo d00d! you're work is awesome, too bad this isn't available on linux or more specifically as a kde screen saver. Bah, I dont need to see the work to know it is awesome!
How do I uninstall this screensaver? Since its under Apple and not Other right clicking doesn't give any options.
I ask because I'm now getting thousands of entries into system.log and he program syslogd is eating 100% of my cpu.
I didn't have this problem before I installed this screensaver. Thanks for any help.
Hmm, thats an odd one aaron, but to uninstall just delete it from the "System/Library/Screen Savers/" folder.
Just looked up your problem, it appears to be a runaway timemachine process...

Hi Aron. Your screen saver is nice, but still I don't want to keep it... And curiously enough it doesn't appear in any /Library/Screen Savers (system or user), but it is well present in the preference pane! How can I uninstall it/remove it?
Thanx!
it should be there, look in /system/library/screen savers/ and you should be able to see it.
Oh yes indeed! Sorry, I missed the "system/" part of the path... Thanx!
Hi Aaron, I install it without error buy still don't see it with the others screensavers, and in "/System/Library/Screen Savers" it only copies a file called "RainyDay2.qtz", no .saver. Using Leopard 10.5.2
Thanks!
Hi fandelost,
actually a .saver is a wrapper for something like a .qtz file. The system views both files as a screensaver, but I'll probably get around to building rainy day into a .saver package some time in the near future.

Hello! Your screensaver is awesome, just beautiful! But i have a problem: 50 % of my iMac 24" screen get black, when the screensaver starts. My resolution is 1920x1200. My actuall hardware: 24" iMac, 3,06 GHz, 2 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 8800GS graficcrard. I hope you can help me!
I'd definitely like to try your screensaver, but I'm one of the ones who is hesitant to with a large resolution. I have two 24" monitors both at 1920x1200.
I love this screensaver—there is only one more option I'd like to see: the ability to turn off the 'running' of the screen image; so that the rain is merely an overlay on a suitable landscape, for instance. That'd be simply perfect.
Half of my screen is black when the screensaver runs. I'm in 1920x1200 with a dual monitor setup.
Large resolutions usually have problems (for whatever reason) I couldn't get an answer out of Apple for the cause of the half black screen, but it's something to do with the Quartz engine.
Will you open source the code to this?
Hi,
Just to let you know that whilst RainyDay2.0 works fine on the whole on Snow Leopard, going into the Options… dialogue and then clicking Done crashes System Preferences for me.
Also, your metapackage installer doesn't install to /Library… it installs to /System/Library…! I'd rather you changed that, myself, and I'm guessing this was a mistake.
Otherwise, thanks for the attractive screensaver.
S.
Thx, SiRGadaBout, didn't find the screensaver on OSX 10.6, moved the file from/System/Library to /Library solved the problem.
Thanks to Aaron for awesome screensaver too.
Aaron,
this is a wicked screen saver! Particularly how you can impose any photograph you want as your wallpaper to get rained-down on.
It's a shame there is not audio rain/ thunder track to underscore the screen saver. I found this file in my OS X Library directory: "/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/Ambience/Rain Heavy Thunder.aif".
It does a good job accompanying the screen saver. I wanted to attempt to incorporate it into my copy of this screen saver, however, I don't know how to develop using Quartz, notwithstanding that I am an Apple iPhone developer. Also, I don't know if the average OS X user would have it in their Library, as it seems to be inside the directory of "iLife Sound Effects", a suite which I did purchase post my OS acquisition. Do you suppose it would be too much of a bother to incorporate this sound into Rainy Day 3, should you already have decided to build one?
Very well, thank again mate for the screen saver.
anyway to install on a pc?
Note, for everybody who's having trouble setting their...settings in System Preferences (adjusting rain, lightning, etc.) look here.
My copy of the app crashed whenever I tried to change something (maybe it had to do with the fact I was using WallSaver).
Anyways, go to screensaver > rainyday2 > options > reset to defaults > done. Then you will be able to change your settings.
How do I install this on windows 7?
I can't find the .scr file
Is this screensaver available on windows??
I installed it, but it wont show up where I put it, or in my screensavers in Preferences...
Available for PC? Does want.
Love this! So cool! HOwever, when changing the options the the settings will unexpectantly quit when clicking done.
I did everything that everyone said to do, and i still cant find the screensaver, installer just wants to keep installing it for some reason. I have the new Macbook Pro 13", any help??????????
i have no installer in mine
there isn't a installer i can't install
